Be inspired. Be honest. Be You.

What Is The Prize?

I am reading through the book of James with She Reads Truth.

Everyday the same two questions are asked What does this passage say? What will I do?

Simple questions, but sometimes hard to answer because I really do not want to hear the truth.

What does this passage say? “…whenever trouble comes your way, let it be an opportunity for joy. For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.”

What am I going to do?

Well, that is not how I deal with trouble.

My first response is to cry “Help me, help me, help me” and I wait to hear my Lord say “I will take care of it and make all things right.”

But you know something? That is not God’s “all the time tested go-to answer”.

There are times He says “be still”, and sometimes He says “not now”, and sometimes He flat out says “No”.

And how do we handle those answers with joy?

James 1:12 says that He blesses those who patiently endure.

James doesn’t say if trouble comes our way, but when trouble comes. And troubles will come.

We eagerly say we want to be like Christ, but many of us are only asking for the good stuff, “make us loving and patient and joyful!”

Jesus was indeed all of those things, but He was also described as a “a man of suffering who knew what sickness was” and He learned obedience through His suffering.

And so it is for us.

We really do not know the depth of our character until we see ourselves acting under pressure.

God wants us to be mature and complete.

What am I going to do?

I am going to remember to thank God for promising He will be with me.

I am going to remember to ask God to help me in solving the problem or to give me strength to endure.

I am going to be patient because God will not leave me alone. He will stay close. He will help me grow.

Give thanks…pray for endurance...and steadfastness to the One who has already endured and proven Himself steadfast. And there is our joy, knowing He already has it covered.

And our prize?

The crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.
