An Inheritance Of Peace

We all need Christian fellowship and godly counsel, particularly when we are puzzled or unsure about what we need to do. Where do you go when you need answers? Friends, a spouse, parent, pastor, or the Internet? All of these resources can be great blessings to our lives. But the next time when you find your mind racing with questions and the future seems far too big to face, call on God, His Word. Do you remember why Christmas starts with Christ?

Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. Jeremiah 33:3

Have you ever wondered if Mary and Joseph felt lost on their long journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem? A teenager ambushed by the Holy Spirit; her finance’ who was at first in disbelief but knew this was God’s plan for their journey after an angel appeared before him in a dream that she was with child from the Holy Spirit. Wouldn’t life be easier if we had visions in our sleep that were messages from God? Instead, He wants us to trust in Him solely, to glorify Him and to maintain faith regardless of the trials and suffering we endure.

It doesn’t matter where we have been, what we have done, we have been forgiven…all because of the birth of Jesus Christ. This young couple fled their village, families, jobs, and friends to begin an endless journey alone. The challenges they faced, the rough terrain on the mountains, cold nights, no communications. Their faith can never be challenged as they were on an incredible journey with no knowledge of the joy and pain ahead in their lives, especially her son, Jesus, the Savior of the World! The greatest gift ever given! When compared to their journey, I sometimes feel shame to think my journey was, and still is, a painful challenge.

After making the trip to Bethlehem and Mary in labor, Joseph frantically begged for a place for her to give birth but many doors were shut over and over again. Doesn’t this sound all too familiar in our own lives? At last, an innkeeper allowed them to use his manger. Then, as the angels appeared and under the bright star in Bethlehem the miracle, supreme birth took place. God made history out of using ordinary, faithful people in spite of their insecurities or fears. As the four gospels will remind you earthly fears are no fears at all. Answer the big question of eternity, and all the little questions of life fall into perspective.

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, and good will toward men. Luke 2:14

Scripture has endured through the centuries. The Bible is the treasure map that leads us to God’s highest treasure, eternal life. God’s plan and passion to save His children can only come through from his Son, Jesus Christ, but it was never an easy journey for Mary and Joseph. Like us, we have many difficult journeys to climb, as well as joy and pain to endure. There are some facts that never change. One fact is that you are forgiven. If you are in Christ, when He sees you, your sins are covered ~ He doesn’t see them. He sees you better than you see yourself. And that is a glorious fact of your life. I am living proof – my story includes kidnapping, rape, armed robbery, carjacking, addiction, suicide attempts, hopelessly lost and worthless for many years until I accepted Jesus as my personal Savior almost ten years ago. It is such an incredible blessing to build bridges with others to Jesus so that I may give hope, peace, and joy to others confronting crisis. You must be broken into pieces before you are willing and needing to believe, like myself.

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me. John 10:27-28

To Christ’s followers, one of the most important things about Christmas is what 'Christmas' really means - it is a Christian act of worship when followers remember that Jesus was not only born as told in the Christmas story, but that, when He became a man, Jesus willingly died to take away all of our wrongdoings and bring us closer to God. Then he came back to life three days later. Christians celebrate this throughout the year. What makes a Christian a Christian is not perfection but forgiveness…Because He Lives! Jesus is our Messiah…He’s the fulfillment of God’s greatest promise to us.

Nothing has ever been the same since the first Christmas.

May Peace Be With You Always,
