Spiritual Warfare: Defeating The Forces of Darkness
Are you engaged in a battle against the enemy? Are you looking over your shoulder to see how close he is to your heart and soul? Do you feel defeated, lost and heartbroken? If yes, God's armor brings victory because it is far more than a protective covering. It is the very life of Jesus Christ Himself! Life is not easy. But if we complain about our fate and feel as though God has let us down, we only succeed in giving into the enemy. By living courageously through the power of Christ’s indwelling Spirit, we can triumph over any negative circumstance. He is with us in all of our distress and encourages us through the power of His love.
“Force protection" is a phrase that is used often in the military today. Warriors are wrapped in body armor, they erect cement barriers by the gates, and place concertina wire around the perimeter, all in an effort to remain safe from danger. Sound familiar? Our lives have similarity when preparing for protection from our common enemy. When we are faced with spiritual warfare, we also need protection. The enemy’s tactics are different with each of us, and he will do all within his power to lure us off the path of strength and will stop at nothing to devour our well-being.
Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. Ephesians 6:11
There is no doubt that my physical and emotional well-being endured darkness, pain and endless tears since last year. As Christians, we are not necessarily free from struggles, setbacks, pain and challenges. However, the difference lies in our approach to these battles. Even though God does not necessarily offer us instant solutions, we must place our faith and trust in Him. To shield our hearts from the enemy, we must put on the full armor of God. Having the ability and strength to handle any problem, according to the will of God, will enable us to think clearly and act positively. I am so very grateful His armor is resilient! It was the only defense I completely relied on this past year.
Recovering from endless spinal procedures, neck surgeries and losing my father last year, it was apparent the enemy began his prowl. To him, I was vulnerable. In a desperate prayer, I appealed to the Lord for His grace and mercy. I needed “force protection” and needed it now. In addition to God’s armor, I knew I needed to pray and pray hard! Our actions alone cannot eliminate the perils that surround us...we must not forget that prayer is the essential element for our security and salvation. The enemy wants to distract us and lead us into a course of internal destruction.
When you put on the armor of God, He becomes your hiding place and your shelter in the storm. Hidden in Him, you can count on His victory, for He not only covers you as a shield, He also fills you with His life. Just because you do not see anything happening doesn’t mean God is not working in your life. You are closest to your victory when you face the greatest opposition - so dress up in His armor and take charge!
Belt of Truth: Truth keeps us from giving in to the world’s beliefs. Compare your beliefs and activities to the truth of the Word of God.
Shield of Faith: Faith is being sure that God will keep His promises. Faith in God protects you when you are tempted to doubt.
Helmet of Salvation: Put on the Helmet of Salvation by believing that Jesus Christ died for your sins and rose again.
Breastplate of Righteousness: Righteousness is being honest, good, humble, and fair to others. It means standing up for weaker people.
Sword of the Spirit: The Word of God. God’s Word is our offensive weapon. When we tell others what the Bible says, the Holy Spirit helps people see their bad thoughts and actions, and makes them want to be forgiven.
Shoes of the Gospel of Peace: Being right with God and being contented in trouble times. Jesus said ”peacemakers were blessed.”
We’ve been entrusted with an invincible, invisible, and an eternal weapon. Becoming who God created you to be is your best offense and your best defense against the enemy’s strategies. So lean into God, lift your sword, pray His Word and show the enemy you will always persevere through the darkness! We can all join forces living by the Holy Spirit’s power to combat the enemy of our soul.
PEACE: It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work.
It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart. (Unknown)
